About NPower

About NPower

NPower is a charitable organization that provides technology services and support to other charitable organizations. NPower's mission is to ensure all nonprofits can use technology to better serve our community.

The NPower Network was founded in Seattle in 1998 to address the lack of technology resources and training available to nonprofits. Following the initial pilot in Seattle, Microsoft Corporation agreed to sponsor eleven new NPowers in cities with matching funds from local sponsors.  NPower Pennsylvania (NPower PA) is an independently incorporated affiliate of the NPower Network and was founded in 2003 with funds from Microsoft Corporation and a matching grant from The William Penn Foundation. Since that time, NPower PA has attracted the independent support of over 100 foundations and corporations.

NPower exists because technology can be a great aid to nonprofit organizations, allowing them to improve their impact and serve more of our community but, without the proper support, technology can become a hindrance. NPower unlocks the potential of technology for nonprofit organizations by providing them with the support, guidance, and training they so desperately need at price points they can afford.

NPower PA's team of technology consultants provides affordable technology services to over 375 organizations in the greater Philadelphia region.  To learn more about NPower's services click here: NPower's Services

"BASICALLY WE'RE THE TECHNOLOGY GURUS FOR 375 NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS IN THE PHILADELPHIA REGION.  WE Take care of THEIR TECHNOLOGY SO THEY CAN FOCUS ON MORE IMPORTANT THINGS, LIKE THEIR MISSION.  We also help them use technology make a big impact."

About ITWorks

ITWorks is a program of NPower PA and supports its mission by providing a flow of well-trained technologists to its nonprofit clients and corporate partners.

ITWorks seeks to address the gap in internship and job training opportunities for the 73,000 identified Out of School Youth (16-24 year olds who are neither in school nor employed) in the greater Philadelphia region.  These individuals are at high risk for lifelong poverty, commonly living on wages below $10,000 per year.  ITWorks offers these individuals 16-weeks of training in Information Technology (IT) and then places graduates into internships in Philadelphia’s nonprofit, business and public sectors.

ITWorks is a is a joint partnership between the United Way of Southeastern PA, Drexel University, and NPower PA.

Our Impact

Collectively NPower's services impact entire communities, from the youth that live in them to the nonprofit organizations that serve them.  NPower is working to create stronger communities.

"We believe that strong communities require strong nonprofits and strong young adults who are on the path to a bright future.   We're here to create both."

Why Nonprofits Need Our Help

Nonprofits meet many diverse needs in the community: educating our youth; challenging and overcoming discrimination; preserving open space; taking back abandoned neighborhoods; and enriching and illuminating our lives with art.

However, as diverse as their work is, most nonprofits have something in common: scarce resources. For nonprofits to fully achieve their missions, these resources must be maximized. Information technologies hold enormous potential to help nonprofits work smarter and reach farther. But nonprofits are seldom equipped to capitalize on advanced technologies without outside consultation and training.

NPower PA evaluates its impact on an organization according to a nationally recognized Stability and Security Benchmark.  Organizations that work with NPower on a technology stability or security project following a Stable and Secure Tech Assessment, on average, improve from meeting 4 out of 12 benchmarks (33% Stable and Secure) to 10 out of 12 benchmarks (83% Stable and Secure).  This represents a 152% increase in the technology stability and security of organizations that engage with NPower on projects post assessment.  This translates into less staff time spent on computer troubles and more time spent with clients and delivering on mission.

NPower Pennsylvania supports the technology needs of many different types of organizations,  none more so than those that provide direct services to underserved community members. Of our 375 member organizations, approximately 225 are providing direct support to our community in workforce development, health, human services, and community development. By helping the nonprofits who provide them with service, NPower's services have an impact on hundreds of thousands of individuals in our community each year.

What We Do

NPower PA exists to serve nonprofits' technology needs. Every day, we are putting technology know-how in the hands of non-profits. They, in turn, are meeting the region's needs more effectively and efficiently.
