Steve Aylward
Steve Aylward is Microsoft’s General Manager for Enterprise Health & Life Sciences (HLS). Steve joined Microsoft in 2006 after a thirteen year career at Siemens Medical Solutions (SMS) where he was the Vice President and National Sales Director responsible for Healthcare Revenue Cycle Solutions.
At Microsoft, Steve is responsible for strategy, alliances, marketing, and sales execution for a $1.2 billion business in the U.S. that includes approximately 800 customers and partners spanning healthcare providers, health plans, and life sciences organizations. His efforts are part of Microsoft’s continued and growing commitment to helping the healthcare industry realize its potential for improved productivity, quality, and safety through proven technology innovation and administrative simplification.
At Siemens, he gained an in-depth knowledge of the need for providers, health plans, and other healthcare parties to collaborate and connect for better health outcomes through his five years as National Sales Director for Healthcare Data Exchange (HDX), a subsidiary of Siemens Medical Solutions. His experience there dovetailed with many of the key business issues currently facing healthcare today: clinician connectivity, administrative simplification, the need for adoption of electronic health records, and the drive toward the consumer owning more of their healthcare information. The adoption and use of technology will certainly play a prominent role in the evolving strategies the industry, the government, and the marketplace implement to address these important topics through healthcare reform.
Prior to Siemens, Steve was employed as a management consultant focused on business process re-engineering in healthcare, insurance, and banking with the firm of A.T. Hudson & Co. The common thread to each engagement was its relationship to the implementation of technology solutions that reduced operational cost, improved service or enhanced access to critical data. His extensive experience within IT, healthcare and general business provide an excellent background in his role as General Manager for Health & Life Sciences at Microsoft.
Steve holds a bachelors degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He is a member of various trade associations including; Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
