NPower PA Class Catalog

Data Management

Data is the cornerstone of any organization, but especially nonprofits. Nonprofits often need to track information and report on clients, patients, donors, funders and members. Understanding the appropriate software program to track this data is important. Easy input and reporting are the essential elements of a good database.

NPower PA offers classes in Database Planning, MS Access and Excel that can help nonprofit staff make the right decisions and acquire the skills needed to manage the agency's essential data.

Word Processing

How often do we all use word processors each day? Using the word processor effectively can save nonprofit staff time and energy. Creating basic memos, case reports or eye-catching grant proposals are all accomplished using this seemingly simple tool.

NPower PA offers classes in word processing ranging from basic to complicated. Our instructors guide students through hands on exercises.

Spreadsheets

Wouldn't it be great if your staff could calculate the budget, predict event attendance, estimate clients served without using an adding machine? How about performing more advanced calculations like IF, THEN statements, MEAN, MEDIAN and MODE? Knowing how to use spreadsheets correctly can arm nonprofit staff with ability to perform these functions.

NPower PA offers a variety of spreadsheet classes. You're sure to find one that can help.

Making Presentations

Nonprofit staff are passionate about the mission of their organizations. Often, it's our enthusiasm that drives volunteers, boards and donors to participate in our mission and ultimately serve the community. Written information doesn't always convey that enthusiasm, so we're called upon to make personal presentations.

Learn how to make a great presentation to large or small audiences using MS PowerPoint. Our classes are designed to help students create dynamic slide shows that enhance rather than take over your presentation. Hands-on exercises and student manuals give students practice and reference for future use.

Email & Communication

Communication is critical to nonprofit mission and effectiveness. Informing the public about events or public crisis issues via the web, communicating with funders and clients via email or collaborating with colleagues using public calendars are skills that help nonprofit staff get vital work accomplished.

NPower PA offers classes in email, web site creation and using MS Outlook with Exchange that help nonprofit staff take advantage of the latest communication technology.

Accidental Techie Series

Understanding technology and keeping it running smoothly is the responsibility of your IT department. Often the employees of this department... Oh wait, you don't have an IT department. Small and midsized nonprofit agencies often rely on a staff person such as the book keeper, communications director or program analyst to keep the computers running. NPower refers to these brave souls as "Accidental Techies". Our goal is to arm these employees with the knowledge that they need to connect printers, load software, maintain basic networks and Internet connections and make informed decisions about future technology.

NPower PA offers classes in Technology Planning, PC Maintenance and Basic Networking that offer the Accidental Techie a classroom environment in which to learn skills to help them with their inherited responsibilities.

Workshops & Seminars

NPower PA students value our hands-on computer classes as a way to gain knowledge of a particular software application and gain specific skills to help them use the software more effectively. NPower has also developed a series of workshops and seminars designed to assist nonprofit staff at a higher level. These workshops offer insight into topics that every nonprofit leader should consider when running the organization.
