Building the Effectiveness of Agencies Serving People with HIV/AIDS
Throughout the Philadelphia region, an extensive network of organizations provides vital services--including housing, medical care, food, and case management--to people living with AIDS. Though they range in size and mission, they share many common technology challenges. In 2004, we conducted our inaugural Technology Capacity Building initiative with 16 of these groups under a contract with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health's AIDS Activities Coordinating Office (AACO). We held a one-day technology strategy session for agency executive directors and senior managers; performed individualized technology assessments and plans for each of the agencies; provided an additional $1,500 worth of technology consulting and training to each of the agencies; and offered technology education to AACO program analysts. NPower is exploring similar initiatives with other nonprofit communities, including organizations serving women and girls (a project now underway with the support of a grant from the Valentine Foundation).
